A RECORD number of Preps walked through the school gates in Casey this week.
On Monday, 2661 children started Prep at government schools in the City of Casey, which was the highest number in Victoria.
At Tooradin Primary School, 38 new Preps started school on Monday.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley visited Hillsmeade Primary School in Narre Warren South and its 113 new Preps on Monday and handed out kits that each Prep student in a government school were due to receive on their first day.
Each kit included an art smock, library bag, water bottle, free book voucher, photo frame fridge magnet and an alphabet CD.
“Starting school is an exciting time for both children and their parents, and we hope this bag of useful and fun items will make new students feel even more welcome,” Ms Graley said.
“The Victorian Labor Government has built nine new schools in our local area- these are excellent facilities for our children.
Families with children starting school in Prep and Year 7 will receive a $300 school start bonus to help with the cost of essential school items such as uniforms, school bags and shoes.
“While starting school can be a very happy time for families, it can also be very expensive, which is why we are offering this assistance to families.”
