Driver cops a speed lesson

By Kelly Yates
POLICE nabbed a driver travelling 26 kilometres per hour over the speed limit in a school zone this week as part of Operation Juno.
Casey Traffic Management Unit launched the operation in an effort to stop drivers ignoring school zone speed limits.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey TMU said police detected 18 offences in five hours on Monday 8 February.
They patrolled the zones outside Cranbourne Park Primary School, Oatlands Primary School in Narre Warren and Timbarra Primary School in Berwick.
Police caught 14 speeding drivers, one driver failing to give way, one driver failing to wear a seatbelt and another driving too close to a vehicle in front.
Police also discovered one unregistered vehicle.
Sen Const Inderwisch said he was disappointed in the number of people speeding through school zones.
“The highest speed we detected was 26km/h over the speed limit,” he said.
“This is unacceptable and we will not tolerate this sort of driving behaviour. People need to think about the risk that they are posing to children in these school zones.”
