MORE than 100 people gathered in Narre Warren South last Sunday for a service to remember those affected by the Black Saturday fires.
Carol and Andrew Miszkowiec, who lost their home in the fires, were two of the organisers of the event.
Ms Miszkowiec thanked the community for its continued support over the past year during the service at Amberly Park Shopping Centre.
She then read a poem she had written in the days following the 7 February fire.
“I got to the second last line and then I broke down,” she said.
“No longer stood our house it was burnt to the ground. Those treasures and photos we long for so dear. But we still have our memories of all by gone years. All the tears and hugs we shared with everyone, will help us again to grow and move on.”
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley also read a poem on the day, while Mr Miszkowiec read a blessing written by Pastor Matt Harry from the Uniting Church Hampton Park.
“It was a beautiful service. We’re now putting it all in the past and looking forward to the future,” Ms Miszkowiec said.
