Mums take to the tennis court

By Kelly Yates
MUMS and their bubs are serving up some tennis action at the Berwick Tennis Club as part of its Mums and Tiny Tots programs.
Run by Tennis Victoria, the programs allow mothers to participate in tennis without the burden of finding childcare, according to head coach Allison Miller.
“While the mothers are on one court playing tennis, their children are on another court with an instructor,” she said.
“The little kids also get snack and story time and learn throwing and catching skills during the session.”
The Mums program is open to beginners and those women who would like to return to playing tennis, while the Tiny Tots program is targeted at children aged, three to five years.
Run by qualified coaches, the initiative is in a non-competitive environment, with a focus on the fun, fitness and health benefits of tennis.
Ms Miller said the program attracted 36 mothers last year.
She said one of the other benefits of the program was that women got the opportunity to meet and socialise with other mothers in the area.
The Mums program costs $15 for five weeks and the Tiny Tots program costs $10 for five weeks per child.
The Berwick Tennis Club is located at Arch Brown Reserve on Buchanan Road in Berwick.
