Chip shop battered – Minh Tu cleans up his Narre Warren fish and chip shop after a fire gutted

A NARRE Warren fish and chip shop owner is counting the costs after a fire ripped through his store last weekend.
Firefighters saved 15 shops from going up in flames after the blaze at the Rebound Court takeaway shop on Saturday just before 10pm.
Minh Tu told the News he was shocked when he heard that his fish and chip shop, which has been operating for six years, had been destroyed by the fire.
“I feel lucky no-one was injured,” he said.
He said he hopes to be back in business in two months.
About 20 firefighters from Narre Warren, Hallam, Berwick, Narre Warren North and Dandenong helped battle the blaze and brought it under control within 30 minutes.
Protecting the nearby shops which were under threat was a priority for the firefighters.
First Lieutenant Travis Carter from the Narre Warren Fire Brigade said the fire had the potential for rapid growth.
“The firefighters were concerned because all of the shops had a joint roof space,” he said.
Lieutenant Carter said the crews spent three hours ventilating the other shops after the fire.
The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault.
