Casey keen to have a Heart

CASEY is continuing discussions with various peak bodies in its bid to attract an A League soccer team.
Casey CEO Mike Tyler told the News that talks were still being held with Football Federation Victoria, Football Federation Australia and Melbourne Heart.
Melbourne Heart is set to join the A League in season 2010-11.
Last October Mr Tyler said that if Melbourne Heart decided to establish in Casey, the professional soccer team could be training at Casey Fields by February or March.
“The current schedule will see Melbourne Heart’s training commence in April or May. Training will be at Casey Fields if council is successful,” he said this week.
Mr Tyler said the council was positive that its proposal was being considered carefully by Melbourne Heart.
Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said having an A League soccer team based in the City of Casey would benefit the whole community.
“It will give the young people something to aspire to and to show that it’s possible to achieve success no matter where you live or what your chosen sport or art form is,” she said.
“We want to give the Casey community every possible opportunity.”
Cr Wreford said she had received nothing but positive feedback in relation to the Melbourne Football Club establishing in the municipality.
“The football club has been committed to the goals of working with the community through businesses and schools,” she said.
