THE Berwick District Woodworkers Club gave a much-needed gift of toys to the newly established Brentwood Park Neighbourhood House in Berwick.
Woodworkers club secretary James Hayes said the volunteers had made toys for more than 15 years and had historically donated to larger charities such as the Salvation Army and Cardinia churches.
“We decided that perhaps there are smaller groups that needed donations,” Mr Hayes said.
The donation includes a range of toys for children up to five years old, including cricket bats, rocking horses and wooden toy beds.
Co-ordinator of the Brentwood Park Neighbourhood House Amanda Eames said the centre attracted mothers, fathers and children from a range of multicultural backgrounds.
She said the reaction from the children after receiving the new toys had been “fantastic”.
Playgroup leader Jackie Blackburn said they had about 90 children in the group.
“And our group is getting bigger, so these toys are very much appreciated,” she said.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley delivered the donation on Monday last week and praised the kindness and generosity of the woodworkers.
“When I asked the woodworkers if they would assist Brentwood Park by donating some of their toys, they immediately obliged,” she said.
