CRICKET and soccer clubs in Berwick will have more room to move after news that a multi-purpose pavilion is to be built at Grices Road Reserve.
The new pavilion includes four change rooms, two storerooms, a kitchen and kiosk, referees room, toilets with disability access, first aid room and a sheltered undercover area.
Sports Minister James Merlino and Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley announced the Brumby Government would provide $500,000 to the project.
The pavilion will complement three soccer fields, overlaid on the cricket oval, training lights, and car park to be built on the reserve later this year.
“With so many families moving into the area there’s been an increase in demand for sports like cricket and soccer and the new pavilion facilities will give the local community and clubs more opportunity to grow and take their love of sports to the next level,” Mr Merlino said.
Ms Graley says the new facilities will reduce the need for growing home clubs like Berwick Regional Churches Soccer Club to travel to other venues for home games and training.
“This announcement is great news for families in Berwick,” she said.
The City of Casey has contributed $1.5 million to the development.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $190 million through the Community Facilities Funding Program for more than 2000 community facilities across Victoria since 2000.
