Boy, 3, killed

By Kelly Yates
THE death of a three-year-old boy in Eumemmerring over the weekend is the first fatality on Casey roads this year.
Jordon Moeung was struck by a car as he crossed Doveton Avenue at Ferguson Court on Saturday about 1.45pm.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) said it appeared the South Australian toddler of Cambodian origins, who was visiting relatives in the Casey area, had run ahead of the guardians he was with.
Sen Const Inderwisch said before they could stop him, Jordon stepped out onto the road and was hit by the car, which was travelling south along Doveton Avenue.
Police said Jordon was pushing a laundry trolley with a basket of pegs at the time of the accident.
The driver, a 61-year-old woman from Doveton, stopped at the scene and was said to be in a “distressed state.”
Jordon was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital where he died 24 hours later.
His mother was in Adelaide at the time.
Sen Const Inderwisch said it was “quite traumatic” for all emergency services at the scene. “We’re disappointed with Casey’s first road fatality for 2010, in particular when it’s a young child,” he said.
Police are urging people to take care on the roads, especially in residential areas.
“It’s also important for parents to keep an eye on their children and not let them get close to the road.”
Sen Const Inderwisch said the driver would not be facing any police charges.
“She was unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit on 5991 0600.
