GEOFF Newnham goes down in history as the first student at Hillcrest Christian College to make it through to Top Class Drama.
The Berwick resident has been handpicked to perform his 2009 A+ solo performance of the ancient Greek legend ‘Achilles’ to a panel of drama assessors and VCE students at next month’s Top Class Drama concert.
Mr Newnham said he was proud to make it through to the popular concert.
“I was pleased when I got the phone call to say I was in,” he said.
The 19-year-old said the upcoming performance would show the current Year 12 students an example of a top scoring solo.
“My solo has all of the prerequisites of Greek theatre,” he said.“It’s got comedy, tragedy and drama.”
Mr Newnham, who is currently studying for an arts and science degree at La Trobe University, said drama was his passion. “I like being in the spotlight and entertaining other people,” he said.
Mr Newnham will take centre stage for the Top Class Drama concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday 16 April.
