She’s for Libs

By Bridget Brady
CASEY mayor Lorraine Wreford says she will not neglect her council duties during her campaign to win the state seat of Mordialloc for the Liberal Party.
Cr Wreford confirmed she was formally endorsed as the Liberal candidate for the seat of Mordialloc last week.
If successful in November’s State Election, Cr Wreford would be forced to quit council.
Cr Wreford, in her eighth year on council and her first as mayor, said she would put her “best foot forward” in what she described as an attempt to take public service to the next level.
“I will fulfil my commitments as mayor in the best possible way that I can.
“We’ve got a good group of councillors and the City of Casey, I think, is moving ahead in leaps and bounds.
“There are local issues that need to be addressed that I’m not going to neglect,” Cr Wreford said.
The Springfield Ward councillor said she would move from Casey to the Mordialloc area, where she grew up and has worked for a period of time, if elected to parliament.
“My roots are back there,” she said.
Cr Wreford said the grass roots community consultation aspects of local government provided a fantastic grounding to be able to move on to parliament.
“I think it’s a very exciting time. I will be dong all of my mayoral duties. I won’t neglect that privilege, and should I be successful in running for the seat of Mordialloc that would be a new phase in my life.”
Labor MP Janice Munt is the current State Member for Mordialloc and is tipped to retain the seat.
