DOVETON resident Les Boyes is an example of a “good neighbour”, says Holt MP Anthony Byrne.
Mr Boyes, who holds a life membership of the Oak Avenue Community Hall, says community involvement was a passion of his.
The Oak Avenue Community Hall has held neighbourhood meetings and barbecues over the years to bring together the local neighbours.
The 74-year-old is also a life member at Casey radio.
“I used to play country music there for six years,” he said. “I’m also on the committee at Myuna Farm.”
Every Thursday, Mr Boyes and the other members at the Doveton club make children’s toys out of egg cartons and cardboard boxes. “I enjoy working in the community,” he said.
Mr Boyes and his wife Helene have been living in their Oak Avenue home for almost 40 years.
Mr Byrne is encouraging residents to get together with their neighbours for the eighth annual Neighbour Day on Sunday.
“Les and Helene symbolise the Neighbour Day spirit – a tremendous amount of pride in their neighbourhood and a commitment to bringing people together to build a strong sense of community,” said Mr Byrne.
