Knives cut out

POLICE are giving residents in Casey one last chance to hand in their weapons during a one-month, statewide amnesty in a bid to stop knife crime.
People will get the opportunity to hand any illegal weapons to police without question or charge before the introduction of tougher fines and police powers.
Police are focussing on taking potentially deadly weapons off the streets.
Deputy Commissioner for public safety Kieran Walshe said after this month, there would be no more chances for people carrying weapons.
“You will face significant charges if detected carrying a weapon,” he said.
“We are really hoping that people, in particular young people, make the right choice and hand in knives and any other weapons during this time.”
While the amnesty is strongly focused on edged weapons, people can still hand over firearms.
