Casey’s Henry does the trick

By Gavin Staindl
A HAT-TRICK to Casey’s Negus Henry has complemented a remarkable come-from-behind 3-3 draw against the Southern Suburbs at Keeley Park.
The ex-Pines striker opened the scoring account for his new division two club in the opening 30 seconds of the second half after his team went into the break down 2-0.
After Comets captain Lee Wilkinson was given a straight red for retaliating a call, coach Doug Chisholm could have been forgiven for thinking the game was beyond reach.
However, a quick attack immediately after the break had Henry volleying and scoring to bring the score to 2-1.
Henry followed this up with a well-timed 18-metre lob over the goalkeeper to level the scores at 2-2 with 20 minutes still remaining.
An incredible 40-metre strike from one of the Southern Suburbs’ midfielders sparked life back into the home side and the young Comets side again had to find something extra to salvage any points.
“The goal should have knocked the heart out of us but we kept fighting,” said Chisholm.
“We were down in the dumps but all credit to our leaders who motivated the boys,” said Chisholm.
With 10 minutes remaining the Comets were awarded a penalty from a handball inside the box.
Henry proceeded to take the spot kick and have his shot saved only to be awarded another attempt after the umpire spotted two Suburbs players encroaching in the box
His subsequent goal sealed the result and gave Henry his third goal for the game and fifth goal for the season.
Post-match Chisholm praised the efforts of his young side who showed enormous resilience to twice fight back from losing positions.
“It was pleasing that we got the result against the run of play.
“We will get caught out on occasions all season because we are such a young and inexperienced side but they will run all day for you,” said Chisholm.
In the other division two match BERWICK drew 0-0 with Heatherton United at Boznia and Herzegovina Reserve.
In the provisional leagues, DOVETON drew 1-1 with the Bundoora Eagles at Macleay Park in provisional state league one while BERWICK KINGS also drew 1-1 with Whitehorse United in their provisional two clash.
Meanwhile, ENDEAVOUR UNITED won their second game of the season with 1-0 over Melbourne Uni at home.
