Comets bomb at home

THE Casey Comets headed a bad week for Casey soccer as only one of the five local teams managed a win.
Berwick Kings, playing in provisional two, managed to pull off a 2-0 win over Bayside Argonauts – but it was the performances from the higher-grade sides that left local coaches disappointed.
Division two team Casey Comets blew early chances to score and eventually surrendered to Heatherton United 1-0 at Comets Stadium.
The loss ends Casey’s undefeated run at home that dated back to the middle of July last year.
Coach Doug Chisholm was clearly disappointed from the result.
“I’m definitely disappointed because we had the better game,” Chisholm said.
The Comets controlled the midfield for the first half and created many scoring openings but it was Heatherton’s Ali Sanad who made the most of his chances by scoring from a blistering run.
The second half was dominated by the visitors.
“We have a very young list and you are going to lose consistency when you have a team like ours,” Chisholm said.
Consistency will certainly be something that Chisholm will be looking to promote after a poor first half last week against the Southern Suburbs and a poor second half this week cost them both games.
“It is easy to rant and rave after the match and it is easy to get disappointed but we are just going to keep focussing on the positives,” Chisholm said.
But with tough matches against Eastern Lions, league leaders Southern Stars and rivals Berwick City this month, positives could be hard to find when June comes around.
The Comets will next week face the Eastern Lions who are coming off a 2-0 victory over Berwick City at Gardiners Creek Reserve.
Berwick City gave up goals in both halves as they succumbed to their first defeat of the season.
Doveton was outplayed in its provisional one encounter against Old Scotch going down 3-0 at Waratah Reserve.
Suffering a similar fate was Endeavour United which went down to Riversdale 2-1 in its provisional two clash at Frog Hollow Reserve.
