Ethnic cash flows

TWO Casey groups have scored grants from the Victorian Multicultural Commission to help strengthen and celebrate cultural diversity.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan recently handed out the grants to the Casey Chinese Seniors Group and the Afghan Australian Philanthropic Association.
The Afghan Australian Philanthropic Association received $2000 for festival costs and the Casey Chinese Senior Group will use their grant of $1500 towards building community relationships.
“It’s great to see local groups getting these grants, so that they may continue their activities and continue to promote the cultural harmony present in our community,” Mr Donnellan said.
“It’s the work that groups like these two participate in that ensures that our local community remains vibrant and diverse. I am really happy to see local groups rewarded for their hard work.”
The grants are part of a Brumby Government program for multi-cultural groups, with more than $26,000 being given to groups in South East Melbourne.
The State Government has increased funding for the Victorian Multi-cultural Commission Community Grants Program from $750,000 in 1999 to $4.6 million per year today.
