TWO Hallam Senior College Sports Academy students are set to represent their state in soccer.
Azim Xhaferi and Bujar Thaqi were chosen for the School Sports Victoria (SSV) state soccer team.
The pair will now join team-mates for a number of training sessions before they compete in the School Sports Australia Event, to be held in Melbourne from 31 July to 6 August.
Hallam Senior College head of sports academy Travis McIntosh said to represent Victoria in their age group was a massive achievement.
“They now have the opportunity to play at the National Championships in Melbourne and push for Australian selection to tour the United Kingdom later in the year and opportunity to be noticed by professional clubs,” he said.
The two players caught the eye of selectors and trials held over three weeks and were selected in the squad of 16 players.
Azim and Bujar also both play for Premier League club Dandenong Thunder, in the reserves.
Mr McIntosh said it was a great opportunity for the students.
“We strongly encourage and actively support in their sporting endeavours,” he said.
In previous years, many students who have been a part of the school’s soccer team have gone on to play soccer at higher levels including senior representation.
