Studentfigures it out

WHILE most students are enjoying some down time over the school holidays, Ashitosh Raman is gaining an insight into the world of finance.
The Hallam Senior College student was chosen to take part in the eighth annual Finance Academy put on by financial services company UBS.
Ashitosh, 16, is in Sydney this week with 49 other Year 11 students from across Australia, for the week-long fully subsidised residential program at Macquarie University.
The program aims to give the students a practical understanding of global financial markets and highlight the wide range of finance-related career opportunities available to them.
Ashitosh said he looked forward to interacting and networking with like minded students.
“I enjoy subjects like maths, accounting and business management,” he said. “This will be a chance to test my levels of interest and help me make better choices for my future studies.”
Ashitosh said he was selected for his high performance in accounting and business management classes.
“I have a good aptitude with numbers and maths, so when there is a realistic applied learning involved it is easier to understand concepts in context of money,” he said.
“Finance is such an important part of our everyday life.”
Ashitosh said he would like to thank his teachers who encouraged him and provided him with the information and opportunity to take part in the course.
“They recognised that my interest and talent would be further enhanced by this course,” he said.
Over the five days, Ashitosh will listen to and interact with key players from the industry, gain practical and working knowledge of financial markets through workshops and visit a live trading floor and CNBC Television studios.
