Gas mess blast

I FIND myself compelled to write this letter on behalf of all ratepayers and my wife and I. To say the least, we are all disgusted that we find ourselves having to bail out the State Government for something they initiated by allowing VCAT to authorise the buildings to be built so close to the landfill site.
It also begs a question that the owners of these properties, but more-so their solicitors or conveyancers, failed them by not doing their diligence in providing the owners with this available information, or was it ignored?
So I say again, why are we paying the heavy price. It should be up to the owners and council to assist in seeking compensation from the relevant parties.
I can assure you, you will be fighting me and probably many others in the courts for the additional rates increase because I, for one, will not be paying for any fighting fund or bail-out due to other parties’ incompetence. If we all refuse to pay this debilitating rate rise the State Government would have to act to stop the council going into bankruptcy – wouldn’t that look good going into an election.
S. J. Byrne,
Pearcedale.
