BERWICK residents say they are disgusted at the amount if rubbish building up at the new Buchanan Park skate park.
Martine Hibbert said she noticed the “mess and lack of rubbish bins” every time she drove past the Clyde Road skate park.
“We have tried to look for bins but are unable to find any, other than the old ones which are about 10 metres away from skate ramps,” she said. “Tell me why the council would plan to put a skate park right opposite a McDonald’s and not realise that they would need to put in additional bins to compensate for the amount of rubbish that kids would make, especially being opposite a fast food outlet?”
Edrington Ward councillor Simon Curtis said he wanted to make sure the skate park didn’t become a “hang out for undesirable behaviour”.
“We need to make sure it’s well lit and in the public eye,” he said.
Cr Curtis recalled asking for CCTV cameras to be installed at the skate park during a council meeting.
“But it got shut down pretty quickly by some of the other councillors,” he said.
“The cameras have terrific benefits. And I’m sure every resident would want them installed.”
Casey Council did not get back to the News before it went to print.
