VICROADS have no “current plans” to duplicate Narre Warren North Road.
VicRoads regional director for Metro South East Duncan Elliott said VicRoads was not aware of any “significant community concerns” about congestion on the road.
As reported in last week’s News, Casey Council is set to advocate to VicRoads and the other levels of Government in a bid to get the road improved.
A petition was presented to the council with 536 signatures from residents wanting the road to be duplicated from Ernst Wanke to Heatherton roads.
Firefighters from the Narre Warren North Fire Brigade, which is located on Narre Warren North Road, say the traffic congestion is that bad at times; they can’t even get out of the station to attend emergency calls.
Narre Warren North Fire Brigade Captain Shaun Trotter said his firefighters were struggling to meet the four-minute turn out time to get the fire truck out of the station.
“We can spend 20 minutes waiting to get across the road,” he said.
Mr Elliott said proposals for improvement projects must be considered and evaluated on a state wide basis.
