A NARRE Warren man has praised the quick action of staff at Westfield Fountain Gate after his wife collapsed while shopping in the centre.
Karl Knudsen said his wife Joyce, who suffers severe diabetes and vertigo, collapsed while buying a bottle of wine in the Safeway Liquor store on Monday, 2 August about 10am.
“She was about to pay for the wine and then she fell, and I caught her in my arms. It was lucky I was standing next to her,” he said.
“And within 20 or 30 seconds staff from Safeway, the bottle shop and the centre’s security were there to lend a helping hand.”
Mr Knudsen said the staff closed the bottle shop off to other shoppers.
Mrs Knudsen, 72, was taken to Casey Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
“The staff in the centre did a fantastic job,” he said.
“I was impressed with how they helped my wife. I’m always going to shop at Safeway now.”
