PEER support groups for children with disabilities will continue to benefit from funding under the Australian Government’s $10.5 million My Time program.
Yooralla’s Early Childhood Intervention Centre in Narre Warren is set to receive $33,000, enabling the program to continue, says Holt MP Anthony Byrne.
Yooralla program co-ordinator Sue Brear said My Time was a valuable support group, which provides families with the opportunity to relax and talk in a friendly, non-threatening environment about issues that concern them as parents of a child with a disability.
Providers in Lynbrook and Cranbourne have also scored funding for My Time.
Judy O’Connor, a participant mum at Yooralla, welcomed the announcement, saying that the information-sharing and support programs made a huge difference.
“Parents of children with a disability make enormous sacrifices that necessitate support services like My Time. This continued funding will come as a relief to many families in Holt,” Mr Byrne said.
