LA TROBE MP Jason Wood has pledged $125,000 towards the establishment of a Green Army in Berwick if he and a Liberal government are elected.
Mr Wood said the army, one of 15,000 groups that could soon be across Australia, would assist the Friends of Wilson Botanic Park in maintaining the park and other areas of Berwick.
The program gives constructive jobs to young people who may otherwise be unemployed.
“It will employ nine young people and a supervisor,” he said.
“It is a great initiative that ends up getting them qualifications, helps people with leadership skills and teamwork, and gets them outside.”
