School zone blitz

By Kelly Yates
POLICE caught 23 drivers speeding through school zones in Berwick, Hampton Park, and Cranbourne last week as they patrolled the streets for Operation Juno.
The highly visible Operation Juno was launched in the City of Casey in an effort to stop drivers ignoring the school zone speed limits.
Police targeted the school zones near Kilberry Valley Primary School, Hampton Park Primary School, Timbarra Primary School and Cranbourne West Primary School on Thursday 12 August. Leading Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch said police were “extremely disappointed” with nabbing 23 speeding drivers.
“We caught one driver doing 63km/h in a 40km/h zone,” he said.
“We’ve been running this operation for a long time now and people are still not getting the message.”
Police spent six hours patrolling the school zones and also found three drivers not wearing seatbelts, one unlicensed driver, one motorist using a mobile phone while driving and one driver failing to carry a licence.
