THE Cranbourne Pacing Cup has been upgraded to Group One status.
Harness Racing Victoria recently increased the cup purse from $60,000 to $100,000 and announced that it would be run on Saturday 11 December as the opening night of the Victoria Cup Carnival.
Cranbourne Harness Racing Club chief executive David Scott is ecstatic to have the club and its cup meeting incorporated in the carnival.
“We’re delighted to be involved at this level and look forward to assembling super fields to contest in both group one races at our venue,” he said.
“We are also excited to have our cup meeting scheduled for 11 December, just two weeks from Christmas.
“I can see the ‘House Full’ sign going up this year and so we’ll be urging people thinking of joining us for an end of year group celebration to book early.”
Scott also announced that Decron Horse Care Products would again be the club’s official sponsor for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
While the running of the Cranbourne Pacing Cup looks set to attract an outstanding field, the 2009 edition provided one of the great talking points of the season when Bettors Strike and Ohoka Nevada ran a dead heat for first place.
But that evening Bettors Strike was named the winner of the cup by the barest possible margin after the result was challenged by the Ohoka Nevada team.
The night will now include two Group One races with the Bill Collins Trotters Mile added to the event.
