DEVON Meadows greyhound trainer Darren McDonald is preparing his sixth consecutive run at this year’s National Championships with Reign Over Me.
The prestigious twilight meet will be held at Angle Park, South Australia, on Saturday 28 August, and will feature 10 races with the two feature races being the Sprint Championship (46th National sprint) attracting $75,000 prize money and the Distance Championship (42nd National distance) also worth $75,000.
Dwyer Lennon-trained Dashing Corsairs, on form, looks to be favourite ($2.80) having won its past four race meets while Reign Over Me ($8.50) will have a good chance for a place with a wide start in barrier seven.
In 53 starts, the reliable Reign Over Me has produced some steady form and has managed 38 top three finishes (16-13-9) and has accumulated more than $100,000 in prize money.
Each greyhound had to qualify through their respective state distance finals. Reign Over Me won its heat over 725 metres at the Meadows and finished in second place in the state final to Mickie Keato ($3.60) with Allen Zander ($13) coming in third.
