POLICE hit the roads of Casey on Wednesday 25 August with a highly visible road block-style operation.
Operation CARE (Casey Area Road Enforcement) targeted traffic and crime related offences including drug trafficking, smuggling of stolen good, unlicensed drivers, drink drivers and motorists not wearing seatbelts.
The monthly operation, which has been running in Casey for about two years, involved 30 members including general duty officers, Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU), the mounted branch, operations response unit and sheriffs department officers.
Last week’s operation ran at Kidds Road, Doveton, but due to poor weather condition it ran for only three hours.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from Casey TMU said the police had good results.
Police checked a total of 139 vehicles.
A number of offences were recorded including two cases of possession of cannabis, five defect notices, four unregistered vehicles, two seatbelt offences and one unlicensed driver.
The Sheriffs Office also recovered $57,475.40 in outstanding fines from 20 people.
Sen Const Inderwisch said Operation CARE will run until the end of the year and will then be reassessed.
“People need to be aware that we are out there performing this operation and if they are committing traffic and crime offences they will be caught at these road blocks,” he said.
