TWO cars and a motorcycle were involved in a smash in Berwick on Monday.
Police, paramedics and CFA attended the collision at the intersection of Monash Freeway and Princes Freeway just after 4pm.
Narre Warren Fire Brigade Third Lieutenant and incident controller Damien Baker said the two cars had collided head on and one of the vehicles had clipped the back of a motorbike.
“The crews worked quickly to secure the scene and administered first aid to the patients,” Mr Baker said.
“One of the drivers was trapped, so we made sure the car was safe while we waited the arrival of Dandenong Rescue.”
The specialist rescue truck from Dandenong quickly freed the trapped driver.
Paramedic team manager David Gray said the driver, 26, suffered minor head injuries and was unable to get out of the car.
“There was substantial damage to the driver’s side of the car and her door had crumpled,” he said.
“Rescue crews worked for about 25 minutes before she could be freed from the wreck.
“She had some cuts and bruises to her head, as well as possible pelvic injuries.”
Intensive care paramedics took the woman to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.
The male motorcyclist was also injured.
“He had pain to his left shoulder and collarbone, so paramedics inserted a drip to make him more comfortable,” Mr Gray said.
“They also gave him an oxygen mask to assist his breathing. He was then taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
“Everyone involved in this crash is incredibly lucky. Given the fact two cars and a motorbike were involved at such a busy intersection, there was the potential for much more serious injuries.”
