Show dogs the lead

CASEY dog owners are being asked to lift their game.
After a spate of complaints, Casey council has asked dog owners to clean up after their four-legged friends and ensure their dogs are always on a lead.
Casey’s manager of community safety Caroline Bell said it was a health hazard if people did not clean up after their dogs.
“Dog poo in our streets, parks and reserves is smelly, unsightly, has a negative impact on the environment and is generally unpleasant for everyone,” Ms Bell said. “Dog poo can also pose a health risk. It contains a lot of bacteria and sometimes roundworms, which can be harmful to humans or washed down the drains and into our waterways causing health concerns.”
If dog owners don’t carry something to pick up their dog’s litter, they face a fine of $200.
A penalty of $119 applies if dogs are found off their leads in a public place. In parks which allow dogs to be off the lead, owners are still required to be under control of their dogs and not within 20 metres of a playground.
