Big night for learners

NARRE Community Learning Centre recognised the efforts of its high achievers at their annual award ceremony last Friday.
Eight different awards were presented to students, tutors, volunteers and classes for their achievements over the past year at the Adult Learners’ Week Award Ceremony 2010.
Michelle Ramsdale won the Learner of the Year for her studies with Certificate III in Children’s Services.
Staff at Narre Community Learning Centre said Ms Ramsdale showed great maturity with her course and respect for her teachers and fellow class members.
“Michelle’s understanding of the course content was great and she was willing top share her knowledge with the class. She had near perfect assessment tasks.”
The Class/Group of the Year Award was won by Fountain Gate Secondary College Pre-Cal class.
The class is a group of 13 Year 9 students who attend Narre Community Learning Centre once a week.
Staff at the centre said the group work well.
“They all work well together as a team and are enthusiastic about learning and gaining more knowledge. Most show up to every lesson on time and with a smile on their face. They are a dynamic group of amazing students who all show great support for each other.”
Other award winners at the award ceremony include Tutor of the Year Phyrnne Hefford, Marie Dunning Memorial Volunteers of the Year Judy and Wally Burman, and June Thompson Memorial Mature Age Learner Quim Nhi Tam.
Corban Skipworth won the Courtney Park Memorial Youth of the Year, and Silvia Vong won the Literacy award.
Special guests at the ceremony included Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley, Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan, City of Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford and councillor Shar Balmes.
