NATHAN Bright thinks his father figure is great, but now everyone knows it too.
Nathan’s father figure Steven Eglitis was named the City of Casey YMCA Community Father of the Year.
Mr Eglitis is Nathan’s mother’s best friend and he helps Nathan train every day at Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre.
Twelve-year-old Nathan, who attends James Cook Primary School Endeavour Hills, nominated his father figure by sending in a story and picture about him to the YMCA.
“My father figure is Steven and he is funny,” he wrote.
“He is also my trainer and Steven is very good at handball. I love Steven and he is a good cook. He is also a good car driver and he is always happy.”
YMCA programs director Nicky Brown presented Mr Eglitis with a certificate and three month membership for Endeavour Hills Leisure last week at a James Cook Primary School assembly. Mr Eglitis said he was honoured to receive the award.
“I was more surprised that he put something in about me in the first please,” Mr Eglitis said.
“I’m also proud of him that he is looking up to me as a role model and that he appreciates me helping him out to achieve his goal.”
