Party going on

By Gavin Staindl
THE party started two weeks ago but judging by Doveton’s 5-0 smashing of Monbulk at Waratah Reserve there appears no signs of it letting up.
Doveton started the celebrations when it was guaranteed promotion last week and beers flowed again on Saturday when it romped past Monbulk in the only catch-up game to be played by a local side.
Marc Davidson scored two goals for the home team while regular scorers Leon Buhic and Grant Lane joined in the celebrations with goals of their own.
The promotion to State League Division Three South/East next year will be the first time the Doves have played in the higher league since they were relegated in 2008.
Doveton finished the 2010 season in first place with 13 wins and the feat is even more remarkable given where the team was halfway through the season.
After the opening 10 rounds the Doves had won three games and with devastating losses including a 5-1 thrashing to Dandenong casting them to the lower half of the table, the Doves were happy just to remain in the league.
But after an incredible turnaround of form the Doves finished the final 12 rounds with 10 wins to finish first by four points.
