Wet change of scenery

FOUR Narre Warren firefighters headed north this month to help local SES and CFA crews with their flood relief efforts.
Firefighters Mark Turnham, Michael Casnji, Robin Barratt and Joe O’Donnell drove to Echuca on 10 September to assist local crews.
The crew spent time conducting welfare checks on residents and discussed flood plans to ensure that the locals were mentally and physically prepared if they had to activate their flood plans.
As part of the work, the crew also drove alongside the Murray, north of Kyabram to Echuca, taking readings of the river level.
“It was quite interesting driving in some parts as it required a four-wheel-drive but we only had road tyres which added to our challenges,” firefighter Turnham said.
“We assisted the local SES crews in preparing for the expected peak in river height, which included working with other CFA crews in sandbagging some properties.”
