RESIDENTS in the City of Casey are encouraged to clean up their property during National Recycling Week next month.
Casey mayor Cr Lorraine Wreford said National Recycling Week, from 8 until 14 November, was a great way to improve safety in and around the home.
“It’s an opportunity to get rid of all those items the council’s hard rubbish collection service doesn’t accept and give your property a thorough detox of all potential hazards,” she said.
“Keeping old chemicals, glass, car parts and batteries and old computer and electrical goods around your house and shed can be a safety risk, especially for young children.”
The City of Casey is supporting Sustainability Victoria to collect unwanted goods that are not safe to dispose of in the municipal waste collection service.
Both the Cranbourne Transfer Facility and the Detox Drop-off Facility are accepting most items free of charge and there is a small fee for larger and more dangerous items.
City of Casey manager Waste Management Michael Jansen said Casey Customer Service Centres would also play a role collecting mobile phones, batteries and printer cartridges.
“They can also provide details of commercial operations that take large electrical items, particularly e-Waste such as computers, television and hi-fi equipment, as well as appliances and batteries of all sorts,” Mr Jansen said.
Cranbourne Transfer Facility in Cemetery Road, Cranbourne, offers free recycling of all separated glass bottles, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard, aluminium, car batteries, oil, scrap metal and white goods. A small fee applies for tyres, gas bottles, mattresses, concrete and rubble, and car bodies. For more information contact 5996 5516.
The Detox Drop-off Facility, located at Cranbourne Transfer Facility, offers free recycling of all paint, motor oil, household and car batteries, mobile phones and accessories, fluorescent tubes and globes.
