Farm offspring visit kids

DUCKS, chickens, goats and lambs recently visited the children at the Talbingo three-year-old kindergarten as part of a special lesson about farmyard animals.
The children at the kindergarten, which has operated as part of the Talbingo Children’s Centre for about 16 years, were involved in a chicken hatching programme where they learnt about life cycles prior to the farm visit.
Principal Deb Scott said the special event was a follow up incursion where the children could further learn about animals and their babies.
Ms Scott said the three-year-old programme started with one group of about 16 children, who attended for two-and-a -half hours, once a week. Because of the growing demand, the kinder now operates full time, catering for five groups of up to 21 children per group.
“This service provides parents with the opportunity to enrol their three-year-olds in an engaging programme that enriches their daily life experiences, focusing on the children’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive development,” she said.
Besides farm visits, children participate in a number of other activities including literature-based role play, storytelling, puzzles and games.
