AFTER losing the opening three games, Berwick has beaten Ormond 5-3 to extend their winning streak to three.
Though it wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard, it was a dominant performance by the Division Two side who improves to 3-3 for the season.
Berwick’s Matt Rossman continued his hot pitching streak, striking out 11 batters and giving up only five hits through the nine innings.
While Ormond pitcher Jeff Jamnick, who is renowned for his curve balls and 150 kilometre an hour pitches, was handled well by the Berwick batters.
Despite only scoring five runs, Jamnick was forced back to the bull-pen prematurely after the strong pitcher racked up a high pitch count early on in the game.
“This was the best game we have played as a team,” Poole said.
But the task looms large for Berwick who faces two important games this coming week, plus another two midweek matches to round out the month.
With a showdown against rivals Springvale this Thursday night and another five matches in three weeks, expect Berwick to have a better understanding of where they stand in Division One after this week.
“We must win one of the next two games… If we don’t then we’re in strife.
“All the teams we play in the coming four weeks are above us or around us so it will be interesting,” Poole said.
