Mowing through it

RESIDENTS will have noticed long grass in a number of council parks over the past week.
While this is, of course, partly seasonal with spring rains and sunny days, there is another issue that has exacerbated the problem.
A major grass-cutting contractor has not performed according to contract specifications. Although council has sought to manage the contractor in the past few weeks to achieve required performance standards, it became clear last week that the contractor was not catching up.
Therefore, council engaged additional contractors to catch up on the backlog of mowing. The cost of the additional contractors will be deducted from the major contractor’s normal payments.
The backlog of mowing should be addressed over the next fortnight.
Shar Balmes,
Acting Mayor,
City of Casey.
