ANOTHER secondary school will be built in Narre Warren North if the Liberal National Coalition is elected this month.
Making the announcement with Narre Warren North Liberal candidate Michelle Frazer, Shadow Education Minister Martin Dixon said the Coalition’s plan would deliver certainty and improved future education opportunities for families.
“The Coalition’s plan will allow Narre Warren North students to complete their secondary schooling on a separate campus in their own community,” he said.
“This area has grown enormously over the last eight years and local families need and deserve a full secondary college.
“This commitment, including funding of $200,000 in the Coalition’s first term to start planning and design, gives parents and teachers the opportunity to plan for the future with certainty,” he said.
Narre Warren North Labor MP Luke Donnellan hit back at the news stating that he did not believe the Liberal Party could be trusted to deliver the goods.
“I have a strong record in delivering new schools and new sporting facilities for the Berwick community,” Mr Donnellan said.
“The only funding announced by the Liberals is for planning – once again they have not costed this promise and they just can’t be trusted to deliver.”
Mr Donnellan said he welcomed a recent Labor Government promise that families in Victoria whose children attend a non-government school will benefit from a $199.7 million boost to drive new opportunities for students and boost professional development for teachers. Education Minister Bronwyn Pike announced that, if elected, the Brumby Labor Government would increase funding to the Catholic and independent schools to $711 million by 2014.
She said the Victorian Labor Government had increased the amount of money provided to students in non-government schools, with recent funding targeted towards supporting students with a disability and from a disadvantaged background.
