RESIDENTS in Casey could soon say “good riddance” to one of the area’s worst stretches of road.
The Labor Government announced last week that, if re-elected, they would invest $48 million to duplicate a 3.5 kilometre section of Narre Warren- Cranbourne Road between Pound and Thompson roads, Narre Warren South.
The project would deliver a four-lane divided road, with provision for a cycling and pedestrian path, boosting capacity, improving safety and traffic flow, while catering for a predicted growth and business development in the region, Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said.
“Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road is an important north-south link between the busy activity centres at Cranbourne and Fountain Gate and this upgrade would be a great boost to motorists, residents and businesses in the area,” Ms Graley said.
Ms Graley said the upgrade would build on previous upgrades to Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road funded by Labor, with nearly $28 million invested to duplicate the corridor between the Princes Highway and Pound Road.
“This new section would link up neatly with the completed upgrades and provide yet another great road project for the local community,” she said.
“It will also complement other road projects being delivered in our community, including upgrades to Pound Road, Hallam Road, Clyde Road and the Monash Freeway upgrade.”
Liberal candidate for Narre Warre South Gary Rowe said the Coalition will also make improvements to Casey roads by duplicating and upgrading Hallam Road, from Pound to Ormond roads and seek to include Evans Road and South Gippsland Highway signals. He said they would complete the duplication of Clyde Road to High Street and seek to include grade separation.
“In conjunction with the City of Casey and the Shire of Cardinia, we will fight for the widening of the Monash including widening and the upgrade of the Clyde Road interchange,” he said.
