A time for giving

An initiative of the Our Community Foundation, GiveNow Week runs from 29 November to 5 December this year and aims to encourage local residents to contribute to the community.
Group managing director of Our Community Foundation, Denis Moriarty, said giving to the community isn’t just for businesses and does not have to involve money.
“There are many ways for individuals and families to give back to their local area all-year long,” Mr Moriarty said.
“Little things such as giving clothes or food to a local charity, volunteering your time, becoming an organ donor or even adopting a pet are all great examples of simple but rewarding giving activities.”
Local retailer The Good Guys Narre Warren is supporting the cause and urging shoppers to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
“Of course, we fund our Local Giving Program 365 days a year, but this is always a good time to remind shoppers of the true meaning of Christmas,” proprietor of The Good Guys Narre Warren, Matthew Sheedy said.
Fifty cents from each gift card purchased will be donated to The Good Guys Foundation and the store will also make a donation for every purchase made during the Christmas period to the Windermere Child and Family Services and Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust.
The electrical retailer has donated more than $33,000 to local charities in Narre Warren as part of its Local Giving Program.
