The Casey council is supporting a number of free community-run events around the municipality on 26 January.
“I encourage all residents to get their family and friends together and enjoy the free community events,” City of Casey mayor Cr Shar Balmes said.
Cr Balmes said Australia Day is a great opportunity to celebrate what is great about living in Australia in a local setting.
In Berwick, the Rotary Club of Berwick is putting on an Australia Day celebration at Pioneers Park between 10am and 3pm.
The day will feature live performances, children’s activities, food stalls and more.
To celebrate multiculturalism in Casey, a Passport to Casey’s Cultural Heritage Showcase will run from 11am to 6pm at Balla Balla Centre in Cranbourne East.
A Day of the Nations event in Hampton Park will include a breakfast, live performances, children’s activities and stalls.
Run by the Hampton Park Progress Association, the event will run from 9am to noon at Robert Booth Reserve, Hampton Park.
The Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre is providing an Actively Diverse Day in Doveton, with multicultural food stalls, dance, musical and sporting activities and community group displays.
It will run from 11am to 3pm at Autumn Place Garden, Doveton.
Perfect for a warm summer night, the Lions Club of Balla Balla is providing an open-air sunset screening of Toy Story 3 at Sawtell’s Inlet, Memorial Island, Tooradin.
A free barbecue, face painting, food stalls and live entertainment will also be available.
