Sahara shines

By Justin Robertson
AFTER a strong showing in the final of the Group One Laurels at Sandown Park last Sunday, Devon Meadows greyhound trainer Greg Tatti says his dog can do no wrong.
“She was stiff last week,” he said. “She kind of lost her footing around the turn and didn’t recover.”
Black Sahara will now look ahead to Monday night’s Cranbourne Cup meet.
When Tatti bought the 22-month-old three months ago, her first race was a doozy. She ran from box six, catapulted at the start and won by six lengths. For Tatti, it was a dream start.
“When that happened I knew we had a good dog on our hands,” he said. “She’s been running really well lately, super fit and can’t put a foot wrong.”
The Sandown Park meet was not only a group one race, but Black Sahara got to race against her three sisters, a first for the track and venue.
Tatti boasts more than 35 years’ experience in training dogs and has no plans of stopping anytime soon.
“I know dogs like the back of my hand,” he said. “And now it’s time to play with the big boys and see how I go.”
If Black Sahara continues to impress on the track, Tatti said he would look to enter her in the Australian Cup later this year and possibly the Traralgon Pup Classic, but for now he said, the Cranbourne Cup would do.
“Hopefully she does well at the Cup,” he said. “She may not run the fastest time but boy, she’ll give them a run for their money.”
