POLICE say they are shocked and disappointed after a Berwick woman was caught driving at five times the legal alcohol limit last week.
The 46-year-old woman left a trail of destruction in Hollyrood Drive, Berwick, where she drove over nature strips, ran into wheelie bins and hit street signs before crashing into a parked car at 2pm on Friday.
The woman blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.259.
“Driving under these conditions is extremely dangerous to herself and other road users,” Casey Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch said.
“With these sorts of readings, drivers will be caught and will face fines and the loss of their licence.”
Acting Sergeant Inderwisch said the woman obviously didn’t consider the consequences of her actions when she got into the car.
“This accident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
The Berwick woman is expected to be charged with a number of traffic offences including careless driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and drink driving.
