ABOUT 100 Casey residents from 25 countries became Australian citizens in a special ceremony at the Cranbourne Community Theatre last week.
Casey’s citizenship ceremony on Australia Day was one of more than 320 ceremonies nationally, where about13,000 people became new citizens.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes welcomed the new citizens.
“Our citizenship is something we should all actively celebrate on Australia Day, whether we are Australian by birth or by choice,” councillor Balmes said.
“Australia Day is an especially important day for those choosing to become Australian citizens, as they take an exciting step, showing their commitment and loyalty to this nation and the desire to share a common future.
“The Casey community welcomes its newest citizens and wishes them well as they take this important and final step to officially join the Australian family.”
