Narre Warren South resident Kirsten Gengi, 34, said she was devastated to see media reports about the impact the flood had on Queensland residents and wanted to help.
“It was heartbreaking to see. I have friends in Queensland but luckily none of them were affected,” she said.
“I have a baby, so I couldn’t fly up there to help the victims, and there wasn’t much more I could do. I thought … why not lose a bit of hair for the people who have lost everything?”
Mrs Gengi’s husband Vince and neighbour Robyn Pahlow also agreed to shave their heads to help raise money for the victims.
“We are very excited to do it. Ideally we would like to raise $1000,” Mrs Gengi said.
“We have told friends and family but would like anyone to come and watch us and donate.”
The trio will be shaving their heads at their residential address in Narre Warren South on the evening of 25 February.
Mrs Gengi said she told friends and family but invited anyone who would like to donate and watch them lose their locks to call her on 0407 866 457 or email her on headshave4qld@hotmail.com
Mrs Gengi said she had also registered with Consumer Affairs and had authority from the Premier’s Department in Queensland.
