‘Stupid’ time for a sip

By Bridget Brady
ONLOOKERS watched in disgust as “louts” fooled around in floodwaters in Narre Warren.
A group of young men were spotted sharing a drink around a flooded car on the badly hit Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road on Saturday, much to the disappointment of Narre Warren resident Julie Treller who photographed the activity.
Ms Treller said the young men were drinking in neck-deep water while they played around with the car, opening the doors and bonnet. She said they were getting drunk and yelling out.
“How can people be so stupid in a dangerous situation? It was disgusting to see.”
Ms Treller said there could have been a disastrous outcome if one of the men slipped and hit his head.
Ms Treller said she didn’t believe the car belonged to any of the men.
“They were just being stupid and swam across and then just started fooling with it,” she said.
Like many others, Ms Treller said she had never seen anything like the floods on the weekend.
“I’m lucky, we’re on the higher part of our estate, but it (water) was still banking up and flowing through the yard.”
