Police slam flood thieves

LOOTERS stole thousands of dollars worth of property from a Cranbourne family who evacuated their flood-affected home last month.
Adam and his family are counting the cost after thieves helped themselves to goods on 4 February when a storm wreaked havoc in the City of Casey.
Adam said his garage door and fence “blew out” during the storm on 4 February and his garage was totally flooded. Adam was helping a family member who was also badly affected by flood damage.
“We think there was a window of four hours where we weren’t home,” he said.
Adam’s road bike valued at $3500, a full set of golf clubs worth $1500 and a cordless drill and lawnmower were stolen.
He said it was disappointing that someone took advantage of their situation, but said his family was better off than some who were badly affected and without insurance.
“It’s still our hard-earned money and not a nice thing to do.
“It’s always disappointing that people take that opportunity, because we’d lost our power as well so it was fairly obvious there was no-one home,” Adam said.
Adam said his road bike a distinctive one, and would be no use to anyone unless they were his size. Detective Senior Constable Guy Matheson from Casey CIU said it was a poor act.
“It’s obviously pretty a pretty disappointing act and we’re asking anyone who knows anything or received the property to come forward,” he said.
