Clean shave for floods

By Lia Bichel
NARRE Warren South resident Kirsten Gengi likes her new bald head.
The brave mother of two parted with her long locks to raise money for flood victims in Queensland.
Mrs Gengi, 34, told the News last month she was devastated to see media reports about the impact the flood had on Queensland residents and wanted to lend a helping hand.
Because she has two young daughters, Mrs Gengi could not fly to Queensland to help with the relief efforts so she decided to raise money by shaving her head.
Mrs Gengi’s husband Vince and neighbour Robyn Pahlow also agreed to shave their heads to help raise money for the victims.
The trio shaved their heads on 25 February at Mr and Mrs Gengi’s house. They hoped to raise $1000, but overwhelming support and a flood of donations saw them double that amount. “We passed the $2000 mark, and money is still coming in,” Mrs Gengi said. “We are really happy with the response we have received. We were very generously supported by Verdun Drive Childrens’ Centre, New Profile Hair Design, Linden’s Fresh Meats and Brumby’s of Lynbrook, and Commercial Class 4×4.”
Mrs Gengi said she was still taking donations, and would close the account next week.
Anyone wanting to donate to the funds can contact Mrs Gengi on 0407 866 457 or email her on headshave4qld@hotmail.com.
Mrs Gengi said she had also registered with Consumer Affairs and had authority from the Premier’s Department in Queensland.
