Hair free, care free

WHILE most women would freak out at the thought of shaving their head, even if it was for a good cause, Donna Gordon felt liberated after her hair fell to the ground.
During the big shave off for the World’s Greatest Shave on Saturday at Cardinia Reservoir Park, the Cranbourne resident took the plunge with four others, including her sister, good friend, mother-in-law and a 10-year-old girl.
Ms Gordon’s brother was given the opportunity to shave everyone, being the first to donate $100 to the team.
“I thought he was going to give me a Mohawk and things like that to get revenge for something,” Ms Gordon laughed.
“But he was really good. I think he had a good time shaving it, got a lot of pleasure out of it.”
There have been no regrets for Ms Gordon as yet, though she says it feels really different.
“It’s bizarre, it’s really weird,” she said.
“It’s nice; I’ve never had it this short. It’s good to not have to do anything with it in the morning.”
Ms Gordon encourages everyone, especially women, to do it in the future.
“Just do it. It’s just such an awesome experience to know that you’ve done it,” she said.
“Once you feel that hair go off you, you feel like a new person underneath, it’s just a great feeling.” The team raised just under $5000, but are hoping for just a little more cash to tip them over the mark.
